Monument Valley & Wildfires
Heading southwest from Moab leaves you with basically two options to get around the Grand Canyon: head west to I-15 and Las Vegas, or head south to Flagstaff. Our goal was to see the sights, so we opted to head south with a stop at Monument Valley along the way. As we got closer to Flagstaff, Google Maps started warning us about a two-hour detour due to wildfires just north of Flagstaff. Somehow, we got lucky and the direct route had just been re-opened ahead of us, so we were able to head straight south on US 89.
